For the first time in its political history, the Bihar Assembly Election Results have given a resounding, historic victory to the BJP-led NDA, sweeping over 200 out of the 243 seats. According to early trends and final tallies, the alliance surged beyond even its peak performance of 2010.
Celebrations erupted in Patna and at several district headquarters with supporters of the BJP and JD(U) waving flags, distributing sweets, and raising slogans at party offices. The mood showed the magnitude of the verdict that has reshaped the political landscape of Bihar.
NDA DOMINATES; BJP LEADS THE ALLIANCE CHARGE
While the BJP did emerge as the single-largest party, the consolidated performance of the NDA was startling to its supporters and critics alike.
The BJP recorded a strike rate above 84%, winning comfortably in key strongholds.
JD-U scored big to consolidate Nitish Kumar’s position right at the center of the alliance.
Under the leadership of Chirag Paswan, LJP-Ram Vilas did its best ever in winning 19 out of the 29 seats it had contested.
Importantly, 17 of the seats fall within jurisdictions that the Mahagathbandhan held in 2020.
The Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular, too, fared remarkably well, getting 5 out of 6 seats.
PM Modi Hails the Verdict as a Mandate for ‘Mahila and Youth’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the verdict “a victory of good governance, social justice and public welfare” while addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.
He said that the Bihar mandate has replaced the “old MY – Muslim-Yadav” politics with a new “MY — Mahila and Youth” formula. PM Modi also targeted the Congress, predicting an imminent split in that party.
Women Voters, Welfare Schemes Boost JD(U)

It was the women voters who turned out to be the decider of the outcome. Going by the voting data, districts with a higher female turnout saw a sharp spike in the support for JD(U). Welfare schemes on safety, healthcare, and direct benefit transfers are consolidating Nitish Kumar’s standing among women.
Mahagathbandhan Suffers a Severe Blow
The worst performance by Mahagathbandhan came in three election cycles.
Congress won only 6 of the 61 seats it contested.
Though RJD won some high-profile battles, including Tejashwi Yadav’s victory from Raghopur, it could not resist the NDA wave.
The CPI-ML and CPI-M registered symbolic but limited victories.
The Opposition leaders charged “vote chori” but finally blamed the Election Commission without providing any concrete evidence.
Key Winners and Losers
Prominent leaders of the BJP and JD(U) won by comfortable margins. Some highlights:
The BJP’s Vijay Kumar Sinha won from Lakhisarai with over 24,000 votes.
Tarapur: Samrat Choudhary (BJP) won by a thumping majority.
The BJP’s selection, Maithili Thakur, is an emerging folk icon and would be the youngest MLA in Bihar.
Anant Singh (JD-U) won Mokama decisively while contesting from jail.
Several RJD heavyweights, including Tej Pratap Yadav, trailed far behind.
Jan Suraaj Party Fails to Make Impact
Despite a high-voltage grassroots campaign, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party failed to open its account. The party announced a review of its performance. ECI Lauded for Smooth Polling, Record Turnout This year’s election recorded 67.13% turnout, the highest since 1951.
No re-polling was ordered for the first time in any constituency. Counting proceeds under tight security with 4,372 tables and over 18,000 counting agents. Historic Mandate and What Lies Ahead With the NDA on its way to plus 200, Bihar is staring at one more term at the hands of Nitish Kumar. Alliance coherence, booth-level coordination and micro-management at the level of the central BJP leadership are seen by analysts as the reasons for clinching this wave.
The verdict also reinforces the dominance of the NDA across north India and signals a tough road ahead for the Opposition in the next political cycle.
