Bihar Elections 2025: NDA Finalizes Seat-Sharing Formula
The NDA has finalized its seat-sharing for the Bihar Elections 2025, with the BJP and JDU set to contest 101 seats each, and Chirag Paswan’s LJP(RV) joining the alliance. This arrangement reshapes political equations ahead of the state assembly polls.

In a significant political development ahead of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has settled its seat-sharing arrangement. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) or JDU will contest 101 seats each, a comfortable level of trust between the two major political allies. The entrance of Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP(RV)] as an arrangement has also further altered the political landscape in the state.
Equal Distribution Reflects Political Trust Between BJP and JDU
According to JDU working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, in a post on X that was made available, LJP (RV) will contest for 29 seats, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Party (Secular) [HAM(S)] will contest for six each for a total of 243 assembly seats in Bihar. Jha also claimed that all NDA allies are on a mission to elect Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister once again with an overwhelming majority.
Shift from 2020: Inclusion of Chirag Paswan Alters Political Equation
This partnership constitutes a substantial shift from the 2020 seat-sharing arrangement, within which the JDU contested 115 seats and the BJP 110 seats. The trimming down of the seats available to the 2 leading allies reflects the NDA’s begun effort at engaging Chirag Paswan and the various smaller allies to add breadth to its base in terms of caste as well as region.
As a reminder, in the previous election, Chirag’s LJP contested 135 seats under its own banner, positively opposing the JDU, but also giving outside support to the BJP. Thus, the previously disconnected party leader returns, on the road to political reconciliation, as both he and Jitan Ram Manjhi of HAM(S) are serving ministerial positions in Modi’s government.
In Bihar, elections will take place in two phases—on November 6 and November 11—and officials will count votes on November 14. Meanwhile, the opposition Mahagathbandhan of RJD and Congress has yet to announce its own seat-sharing formula to put in place for a real electoral contest.
