Dehradun landslides struck the city during a red alert, washing away at least five people as rivers overflowed. Rescue teams launched emergency operations immediately.

Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah called Chief Minister Dhami on Tuesday, pledging full federal support for Uttarakhand.
Heavy rainfall prompted authorities to issue a red alert in Dehradun, triggering landslides and flooding several streams. At least five people were swept away in Tapkeshwar, DIT College area, Rajpur Shikhar Falls, and Bhagat Singh Colony.
Rescue Teams Work to Save Trapped Residents

Several shops were damaged in Karligad in Sahastradhara in the torrential rain. District administration officials reported on Tuesday that people are being evacuated to safety.
In Tapkeshwar, one person was swept away by the water, and some of the stranded were rescued by SDRF. Near Rajpur Road, in DIT College, one person was swept away and another was injured. Two people went missing in the Rajpur Shikhar Falls area, and three more people are stranded on the Rispana River. Rescue operations are ongoing everywhere.
The red alert was issued on Tuesday, sept 16, around 5 am by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, and the Disaster Alert Portal of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), along with the forecast for heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms with lightning, and spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Due to the current weather conditions in the district, there is potential for flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas that could lead to unfortunate incidents, according to a circular issued by Savin Bansal, District Magistrate, quoting the IMD.https://ndma.gov.in/en/activities/disaster-management.html
Roads and Bridges Suffer Heavy Damage Due to Dehradun Landslides

While most roads are affected, a bridge in Maldevta has fallen, making it necessary to divert traffic, and the movement of debris has blocked sections of the Mussoorie- Dehradun road. The police and the departments continue to clear the road as directed.
The District Administrator has, nonetheless, coordinated with the tourists coming to Mussoorie to refrain from coming this way until the road is opened. A portion of the Premnagar bridge on the Dehradun-Paonta National Highway has been damaged, and traffic jams have occurred on that road.
