DMK’s Legal Fight Against Electoral Roll Revision

The DMK filed a case in the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s Special Intense Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Tamil Nadu. The DMK has alleged that the special revision could eliminate a large number of true voters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, as the petition states the direction has defective record requirements and alleges the time period for the special revision is unacceptable and unreasonable. Hence, it alleges the process will eliminate lakhs of true voters without any due process. https://www.eci.gov.in/ceo-contact-details?utm_
Stalin Criticizes Electoral Roll Revision, Citing Bihar
Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M K Stalin publicly lashed out at the Election Commission, accusing the EC of deleting “true voters” just before elections.“The Election Commission wants to carry out a complete revision with polls approaching; this is a technique to remove true voters. This is what they did in Bihar, and now they are trying to repeat it in other States,” he said. He points out that Tamil Nadu objected to the issue when it arose in Bihar, adding that “Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav led a revolution” against the alleged action.
Opposition Concerns Over Voter Deletion During Revision
The DMK convened an all-party meeting to oppose the EC’s order. The meeting passed a resolution condemning the SIR process. “Even some Opposition parties like the AIADMK, which did not attend the meeting, have opposed the Election Commission’s actions,” Stalin said. He went on to claim that AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami was afraid of the BJP. “He was afraid to openly oppose it (the EC),” he said.
Stalin Targeted PM Modi
Stalin also shot at Prime Minister Modi in his speech. He claimed that the BJP was doing “treacherous acts” in Tamil Nadu after failing in other states.“PM Modi, who should act as the Prime Minister for everyone, delivered hate-filled speeches in Bihar using Tamil Nadu as a target. I challenge him to say the same things when he comes here,” he said.
