
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will visit India on January 12 also meet India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad. The objective of the meeting is for both Germany and India to mutually strengthen their bilateral ties after 25 years and develop a joint agenda of future areas of cooperation that are of mutual interest, and strategically crucial to both countries.
Both visits, and future visits, to Germany and India signify growing trust between the two nations.
Modi and Merz Join Cultural Events
Modi and Merz will have their first official engagement when they visit Sabarmati Ashram to pay respect to Mahatma Gandhi and discuss the importance of democratic values. Next, both leaders will attend the International Kite Festival near the Sabarmati Riverfront where Gujarat’s Cultural Heritage is showcased and its impact on the global image and reputation of India is highlighted.
The Kite Festival will allow both leaders to develop a closer relationship with each other, as well as, connect more socially with both citizens of their respective nations. After the Festival, Modi and Merz will then travel to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar to participate in formal discussions about them as leaders and the future direction of their respective nations. Transitioning from cultural discussions to policy issues will further demonstrate the level of trust and mutual interest between the two nations.

Talks Focus on Strategic and Economic Goals
Modi and Merz’s agenda of discussion at their summit will include promoting online trading and developing co-operation on trade between India and the EU, as well as enhancing bilateral business partnerships through increasing investment in various protocols relating to Clean Energy, Defence Technologies, Advanced Manufacturing, Education/Skilling, Mobility, and Climate Action.
There will also be specific agendas aimed at strengthening co-operation in Scientific Research and Innovation. Also included in the agenda will be discussions on Global Security Threats, Defence Collaboration and Cooperation, Global Climate Action, and Green Development. Modi and Merz should also make time to discuss their commitments towards these issues prior to meeting with key Industry Leaders from both countries in order to create additional foreign investments; Advance Supply Chain Resilience towards greener future investments; and create opportunities for further Investments and Joint Co-operation in the future.
