Canadian authorities have conducted the Inderjit Singh Gosal arrest, detaining the top SFJ commander on weapons charges.

Toronto, Canada: Canadian police authorities have arrested Khalistani terrorist Inderjit Singh Gosal, the top commander of banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), on charges of using several weapons. The arrest has generated immense international attention against the backdrop of pro-Khalistan militancy in Canada and the sensitive India–Canada relationship.
Inderjit Singh Gosal Arrest Details
The Ontario Provincial Police apprehended Gosal, 36, who was arrested in Whitby, Ontario. He has since been charged with several offenses, including the careless discharge of a handgun and various weapons charges.
Two were arrested : Arman Singh, 23, of Toronto, and Jagdeep Singh, 41, of New York, reported Canadian media.
Role in Khalistan Referendum Campaign
Gtal is also a high-ranking leader in the Khalistan Referendum movement, an SFJ movement for a separate Sikh state of Punjab. Gtal rose as a top leader after SFJ president Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s assassination in Surrey, Canada, June 2023.. Killing Nijjar had already put India–Canada relations in the limelight, and Gtal’s move became delicate.
Past Incidents
This is not the first instance of Gosal having a run-in with the law. Gosal was also arrested in November 2024 for having been involved in a fight at a Brampton Hindu temple, for which he was charged with assault with a weapon.

Arrest follows heightened alarm in Canada at Khalistani terror operations being directed from the country. India has continued to demand that Canadian authorities take action against those running anti-India operations from Canadian territories. SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is already a designated terrorist under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).https://www.mha.gov.in/
Canadian authorities were reported to have offered Gosal protection when he alleged foreign agents were harassing him but he declined.
Significance of Inderjit Singh Gosal Arrest
Gosal’s arrest matters for several reasons:
It is a reflection of Canada’s efforts to purge extremism in the country.
It can have policy implications for India–Canada bilateral cooperation against transnational terrorism linked to the Khalistan movement.
The case is being heard in the Canadian courts, and its ruling has policy implications for law enforcement along with perpetual controversy regarding Khalistan-linked activism in Canada.
