India AI summit places the country at the center of a shifting global technology order in 2026. India is uniquely positioned today (2026) to change the future of technology. The Prime Minister of Bhutan said the AI summit will have a significant global impact, and the President of France stated that digital fragmentation must not occur because AI has become a significant area of global strategic competition. Other leaders commended India’s digital public infrastructure, and many cited the case of India’s identity system and payment system as examples. Thus, the Indian approach to AI combines the principles of sovereignty and openness.
From vision to influence, as execution becomes decisive
At the same time, global leaders in technology affirmed the significance of India’s growing position in the world today. The chief of OpenAI characterized India as one of the major players in AI and warned that AI will change how software is priced through economics. The CEO of Google suggested that an AI divide must be avoided through investment in connectivity and computing. Furthermore, other industry leaders recognized India as having a significant amount of talent within its workforce.
Ministers at home reiterated the importance of creating ethical and accountable AI. The MANAV vision proposed to create moral and inclusive principles for AI. However, many analysts believe there are significant challenges to achieving those goals, including delivering on the ambitions outlined by the MANAV vision and addressing infrastructure, governance, and trust issues. Ultimately, the future direction of India’s moment will be determined by the level of successful delivery. While this summit has symbolic meaning, it signals that the balance of power in AI worldwide is shifting.
