India-France strategic partnership gained renewed global attention as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron showcased diplomatic warmth following high-level bilateral talks in Mumbai. An ordinary drive around Mumbai turned into an extraordinary symbol of diplomacy when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron journeyed together to the India-France Innovation Forum following high-level bilateral discussions.

Macron captured the moment as a ‘Jai Ho’ post on his social media, showcasing their personal relationship and genuine friendship; while Modi indicated they were continuing to engage in a variety of important issues after the formal conclusion of their discussions, both at Lok Bhavan and at the press conference.
Both nations have recently entered into what is considered by many experts to be one of the most significant developments in the history of India and France’s diplomatic ties, elevating them to ‘special global strategic partnerships’ during Macron’s three-day visit to India.
Defence Manufacturing and Aerospace Cooperation Deepen Bilateral Ties
During the visit by Macron to India, the two governments elevated their relationship to form a “Special Global Strategic Partnership,” which represents a commitment to work together further in several areas, including defense, technology, and trade, as well as the critical minerals market.
Modi expressed that France is one of India’s most trusted partners during this unprecedented, tumultuous time in our shared world.
“The India-France partnership is a stabilizing force on a global scale,” he explained, and added that their two nations together produce a combination of France’s technology and India’s large population, along with their continued economic advancement.
Together, the two countries signed a combined total of 21 different Agreements/Commitments in various areas such as:
Defence and military co-operation;
Renewable energy;
High-tech/inventions;
Healthcare and critical)*).
A major development was the signing of a joint venture agreement to produce AM Hammer precision-guided missiles in India, reflecting both countries’ commitment to defence manufacturing cooperation.
A large component of their partnership was solidified by the recent virtual inauguration of a new Airbus Assembly Facility in Vemagal, Karnataka, for manufacturing H125 Helicopters for both domestic and international distribution.
Thus, working together to enhance India’s aerospace industry and establish India as an international manufacturing hub. Their widely accepted use in all terrains, including mountains like the Himalayas, is a testament to the high level of mutual trust that exists between both countries.
Modi demonstrates his approach to building personal ties with foreign leaders by sharing automobile rides and holding close meetings with leaders from France, Russia, Malaysia, Germany, and the UAE.
Informal interactions between the two leaders support formal diplomatic initiatives by adding to each leader’s level of trust and level of agreement on political issues.
Macron’s fourth trip to India indicates the strength of the bilateral relationship. France is a significant defence partner for India through the sale of Rafale jets, submarines, and JAS comparative defence systems to India.
India and France are each strategically sending a message through their relationship that, as the global balance of power changes, India and France will be strategic partners in the areas of defence, technology, and innovation.
Thus, while the “Jai Ho” moment will be the headline for many articles covering this story, the symbolism of this moment in time reflects a development of their strategic partnership well beyond the areas of defence and aerospace into the realms of geopolitical ambitions and economic interests.
