Jaishankar, Rubio Discuss Trade and Global Crises
On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for a discussion on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Canada. Issues discussed included bilateral trade, supply chain resilience, and global geopolitical crises, including the Ukraine war, the crisis in the Middle East, and Indo-Pacific cooperation, Jaishankar Rubio G7 meeting.
Jaishankar tweeted, “Good to meet @SecRubio this morning at #G7 FMM. Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi. Discussed our bilateral ties, including trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on Ukraine conflict, Middle East/West Asia situation, and Indo-Pacific.”
Jaishankar’s bilateral engagement with Rubio also underscores the deepening coordination that is developing between New Delhi and Washington, with pushes from both sides to deepen their strategic and economic partnership in a changing global context.

India’s Presence at the G7 is Growing
During Jaishankar Rubio G7 meeting Canadian presidency, India will participate in Montreal along with Brazil, Australia, and South Korea as an invited partner nation. The two-day summit will focus on global security, economic resilience, energy collaboration, and partnerships throughout the Indo-Pacific.
Minister Jaishankar engaged in a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from Canada, France, the UK, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, and Germany. The meeting between Minister Jaishankar and Senator Marco Rubio occurred just minutes after President Donald Trump stated that the US is “very close” to finalizing a new trade deal with India. Trump called his relationship with Indian Prime Minister Modi “fantastic” at the swearing-in ceremony for Ambassador Sergio Gor and stated that India is “one of America’s most important partners in the world.” The meeting between Jaishankar and Rubio represents ongoing deepening US-India relations, built on economic commonalities, and partnerships across strategic sectors such as trade, technology, and regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
