Prime Minister Modi will go on a high profile visit to Israel on Feb 25, where he is anticipated to enhance the defence, technology, and economic relationship with Israel. He is also likely to speak before the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, denoting the growing value of the bilateral relationship.
Israeli PM Benyamin Netanyahu annonced the visit at an event in Jerusalem where he referred to the India-Israel relationship as being a “tremendous alliance.”
We will be discussing many different kinds of cooperative opportunities, said Netanyahu, stating that India is very influential and has global significance with strategic value.
Second visit, but with higher strategic stakes
This will be the second visit by the Indian Prime Minister to Israel, Modi’s first had taken place in July 2017, which was the first visit to Israel by an Indian PM. Officials have stated that they expect there will be defense collaboration, trade negotiations, and geopolitical coordination as a result of this more extensive visit than the prior one.
Modi is likely to discuss key bilateral and regional issues, including new technologies; defense partnerships; and economic cooperation.
This visit comes after a number of high level visits to India by Israeli ministers involved with finance, defense, agriculture, and industry in 2025.
Defense, technology, and trade at the centre
The defense and technology relationship between India and Israel has developed quickly. In November 2025, both countries signed defense industrial cooperation agreements to enable the joint development and production of advanced technologies.
Some of the areas that will collaborate in this partnership include:
- AI (Artificial Intelligence)
- Cybersecurity
- Defense manufacturing
- R&D
Security personnel from both countries have also been working together to address common security issues and are particularly focused on counter-terrorist cooperation.
Economic cooperation has also progressed significantly, with both nations signing a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and reaching an agreement on a future Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that will facilitate increased trade and investment flow between them.
Both the BIT and FTA are part of a broader strategy to establish an institutional framework of economic cooperation between Asia’s 3rd largest economy and one of the leading technology hubs.

Strategic and Symbolic significance
Prime Minister Modi’s forthcoming appearance at the Knesset will carry both strategic and symbolic significance, demonstrating that India is a key player in Israel’s foreign relations.
The visit is also significant in light of India’s competitive stance in the West Asian region—strengthening its relationship with Israel while maintaining its commitment to support a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
As defense, technology, and trade cooperation continues to expand between India and Israel, this visit is likely to bring about yet another milestone in the transformation of the two countries’ relationship.
