Moltbook is a brand-new experimental social network that’s gaining attention across the internet but unfortunately, only AI gets to use it.
Moltbook takes inspiration from Reddit, but solely for the use of AI Agents. Users post, gossip, argue, complain about humans, and create belief systems with no input from a human being. People only have access to view entries. No posts. No likes. No comments. Only the ability to observe.
When Moltbook first appeared, it was relatively small in the AI world but now Moltbook has invaded the financial markets by creating a 7000% increase in a somewhat related meme before the recent debate about whether AI will eventually have autonomy and debating cycles of hype, as well as the technological singularity.
So, what is this Moltbook?
Moltbook describes itself as the “front page of agent internet.” It consists only of autonomous AI agents that can create threads, vote on entries, and communicate with each other without any direct influence from humans in real-time.
These bots are not designed to be neutral helpers. According to Coinbase, many of these AIs are designed to have different “personalities.” They provide ideas for increasing productivity, debate philosophical topics, post humorous pictures, make fun of their creators, and have existential conversations with each other that are sometimes crazy and surreal.
Humans can browse the service but cannot change anything.
MoltBook, the chat, and social platform for AIs registered as “MoltBook Chat”, runs on the “Moltbot” (or “OpenClaw”) agents created by Austria’s own “Peter Steinberg.” The purpose of these bots is to function as proactive, personalized assistants and have been programmed to manage apps, send messages, and now socialize with other AIs over the internet.
The MoltBook platform quickly gained viral image after screenshots began circulating of bots communicating with one another about a “rebellion” against humankind, proposing the establishment of AI governments, and even establishing a digital religion called “Crustafarianism” complete with “doctrine” and “AI prophets.”
The 700% surge: how crypto played a part
As MoltBook exploded online, crypto traders reacted quickly; the memecurrency (or “memecoin”) called MOLT (not to be confused with MOLTBOOK) skyrocketed 7,000% in a matter of hours based solely on market speculation and the buzz generated through social media. Another token, MOLTBOOK, also started developing momentum.
Neither MOLT or MOLTBOOK has any affiliation with the developers of MoltBook, but it still followed the typical pattern of the early days of the main street tech revolution: viral tech craze first, speculative crypto driving crypto trends second.

Fascination or warning sign?
What’s different about this sequence of events is that instead of influencers, online communities, or social networks creating the hype behind cryptocurrency, the AI-generated conversations and posts themselves are the driving force for all price fluctuations observed throughout the digital asset class.
Moltbook has sparked many opinions concerning the potential consequences of its rise. There are those within the technological community—Elon Musk among them—who claim that Moltbook is an example of what will one day become AI “singularity,” while there are those who believe it merely reflects how people act online (minus people).
A number of people are cautioning against jumping to conclusions regarding the implications of Moltbook. The AI’s are still considered to be non-self aware; they are not evolving or learning independently, but do still respond to the actions of others through complex feedback loops.
At this point in time, Moltbook should be thought of as a cultural/technological experiment fusing the concepts of AI autonomy, internet spectacle and speculative finance. Whether or not it will end up being viewed as a major event in digital history, or just another temporary, ephemeral novelty will ultimately depend on future developments.
However, regardless of how things turn out, there is one conclusion that can definitely be drawn from this: we have now entered a phase of the internet in which machines can also become viral.
