Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the national capital. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 5, at 10:30 am at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre. This marks 100 years since the RSS was founded in Nagpur in 1925.

Commemorating a Century of Service
As part of the ‘Sangh Chetna Yatra’ celebrations, PM Modi will release a special postage stamp and a coin. Both will commemorate the Sangh’s 100-year journey. Moreover, PM Modi will address the gathering of RSS volunteers, dignitaries, and members of the larger Sangh Parivar.
PM Modi announced this event in a post on X, calling it a “historic occasion” that coincides with Vijayadashami. He wrote: “For a century, millions of swayamsevaks across the nation have worked with the spirit of ‘Nation First’ in service of Mother India.”
RSS: From Humble Beginnings to a National Movement
Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar founded RSS in 1925 with the aim of promoting discipline, cultural consciousness, and national service. Over the years, it has grown from a small volunteer organisation to a large socio-cultural movement. Today, it works in education, health, social welfare, and disaster relief.
In addition, volunteers have provided assistance during floods, earthquakes, and cyclones. These efforts have earned the organisation widespread recognition for its community service.
The Significance of the Centenary
Ahead of the celebrations, an official statement described the RSS as “a unique people-initiated movement for national reconstruction.” It said the organisation’s rise was rooted in the idea of national resurgence and Dharma.
The Delhi event will feature cultural performances, exhibitions, and discussions highlighting the Sangh’s contributions over the past century. Furthermore, organisers say the programme will honour the RSS’s enduring impact on India’s social and cultural landscape.
Cultural Homage Before the Celebration
On Tuesday, ahead of the centenary, PM Modi attended Durga Puja festivities in Chittaranjan Park, Delhi. He prayed at the Kali Bari temple and performed aarti at a nearby pandal. This gesture highlighted the city’s deep cultural diversity.
A Milestone for the Nation
The RSS centenary is an important moment in India’s public life. It reflects on a hundred-year legacy through its vision of “Sarvangeena Unnati” — meaning the all-round development of the nation.
