Punjab farmers’ flood relief remains unresolved as flood-hit farmers continue hunger strikes, raising concerns over governance, justice, and food security. Farmer suicides and farmers’ hunger strikes are a major concern for the country. The crop growers, who
are the ones who provide food to live and grow, are themselves fighting for their right to live. Across the
country, farmers are even fighting for MSP to be given a legal guarantee, whether it is by the state or
the central government.

The farmers in Punjab, who were the victims of floods, are continuously on hunger strike to get
the government’s promised right to flood relief funds. Moreover, the government has
continuously failed to find a proper way to control the repeated floods in the state.
Even the media has stopped reporting and highlighting the issues, problems, and hurdles faced by
farmers. The most important section of society and the state, which depends on farmers for food, is
ignoring the matter of concern. If this situation continues, how can one think of achieving SDGs, which is
one of the main concerns of the nation?
Other problems, such as polluted and contaminated water, drug abuse, & health issues, are going
unnoticed. The state govt. should pay attention to these issues of the food growers, as not only the state
but the whole nation depends on them. If the strike continues, it will not only affect the health and
standards of the nation, but it will also affect the ideology of the coming generations to believe in the judiciary,
government promises, and compensation. At least the sector of society that is already under the
curse of indebtedness needs to be supported and uplifted by the govt. to maintain equality in society,
instead of waiting for the promise to be fulfilled, to have their food. It is actually the injustice
with the farmers by the government. Either it is the state govt. or largely the center govt.
