The Police began to unravel the conspiracy on November 10 when they found 360 kg of ammonium nitrate in the room of Dr. Muzammil Ganaie at Al-Falah University. Additionally, the Jammu and Kashmir Police subsequently stated that they recovered a total of 2,900 kg of explosive items from other locations adjacent to the university campus.
Officials went on to say it was the exposure of a JeM module that was operating with a white collar component of highly educated individuals.
DNA Matches Dr. Umar Nabi as the Driver of the Car
From the investigation, the police were able to determine that the 28-year-old Dr. Umar Nabi was the driver of the Hyundai i10 that detonated near the Red Fort
Officials confirmed his identity by matching his mother’s DNA to human remains recovered from the site.
The police also observed from CCTV footage that Dr. Umar Nabi parked his vehicle near the Red Fort and remained there for nearly three hours.
Officials indicated he attempted to create a VBIED and unintentionally detonated it.
They indicated there was also no shrapnel, which reinforced their theory of an incomplete device.
Dr. Muzaffar Rather Flees India Before the Bombing
Police stated that Dr. Muzaffar Rather, also from Qazigund, was instrumental in facilitating the execution of the endeavor.
However, he left India in August, and after departing the university, he allegedly traveled to Afghanistan.
Investigations revealed that the three Kashmiri doctors had visited Turkiye in 2021 for potential indoctrination.
As a result, the police have requested a Red Corner Notice from Interpol.
Lucknow Doctor Confesses to Knowing the Conspiracy
Officials apprehended Dr. Shaheen Sayeed from Lucknow for helping with logistics for the module.
Allegedly, she admitted that she was aware of the planned attack and its timeframe in December.
Additionally, officials stated that she had assisted in broadening the network and provided connections to operatives to recruit new people.
Her confession put the spotlight on preacher Maulvi Ishtiyaq, of Haryana, who allegedly kept chemicals at Al-Falah.
JeM Posters in Srinagar Sparked First Investigation
The investigation began unraveling after JeM posters appeared just outside Srinagar on October 18–19.
Police deemed the posters to be a serious threat and initiated a formal case.
They arrested three individuals who were caught on CCTV pasting the posters.
The accused was then named Maulvi Irfan Ahmad, who was reported as a former paramedic and now preacher. Officials said Irfan was responsible for radicalizing Ganaie, Umar, and Muzaffar and coordinated their initial activities.
Arrests in Several States Disclose a Broader Support Network
Police have detained eight individuals, including Dr. Adeel Rather, who is Muzaffar’s brother.
Officers recovered an AK-56 rifle and rounds of ammunition from Dr. Rather’s locker in Anantnag, yet investigators have not determined his specific role in the attack.
Edgewood County officials also spoke with a number of families and associates of the suspects from four different states.
The statements the counties received allowed the counties to put together where the group had been traveling and how they acquired materials.
Al-Falah University is Identified as the Operation Center
Authorities were able to identify Al-Falah University in Faridabad as the center of storage and planning.
The campus is said to contain 76 acres, with various colleges on campus, as well as a hospital.
As well as recovering a rifle and ammunition, investigators also processed various chemistry laboratories and hostels for chemical residue.
According to that same official, one reason the university was chosen was that it allowed for perfect cover because the suspects could mix in with students so well.
As the investigation continues, the agencies are mapping out the funding of the module as well as any foreign contacts made.
