Trump Demands Hamas Disarmament in Gaza Ceasefire Talks
US President Donald Trump has issued a firm warning to Hamas as part of the Trump Hamas Gaza ceasefire. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has said he would “disarm Hamas” if the Palestinian militant group does not disarm. At the White House on Tuesday, Trump said if Hamas does not disarm, the disarmament would happen “quickly and perhaps violently.”

Trump made the statement a day after he traveled to Israel and Egypt to commemorate the Gaza ceasefire agreement that was recently brokered. His comments created lively discussion regarding the next steps in the peace process and the future of the military wing of Hamas.
Trump Hamas Gaza Ceasefire: Urgent Disarmament Deadline
Trump said that he spoke to Hamas “through my people,” but he didn’t say that he spoke directly to them. “I talked to Hamas and I said, ‘you’re gonna disarm,’ and they said, ‘yes sir, we’re going to disarm,'” Trump said when speaking to reporters.
Trump did not specify who would be doing the disarmament or if U.S. troops would be involved. Officials in Washington have not confirmed that any military planning is taking place.
The president went on to say that taking away weapons from Hamas was a key element of the 20-point peace plan for the Middle East he proposed. The plan will call for a sustainable ceasefire and a plan for reconstructing Gaza in a post-war environment.
Ceasefire Holds With Ambiguity
Trump’s trip to the Middle East was planned with some hope after the ceasefire announcement. The agreement ended months of violence between Hamas and Israel, but there are still unresolved issues, such as disarmament and who remained a hostage.
The US president also insisted on Hamas bringing back the bodies of the remaining hostages. “They have to bring back the dead as they promised,” Trump said. “Phase short-term Phase Two starts now.”
Bodies of Dead Hostages
Hamas released 20 of the surviving hostages earlier Monday, but it’s holding the bodies of 24 others. Hamas returned just four bodies as part of the latest swap, part of the most recent action in the ceasefire, as everyone is working to finalize what actions will take place under the terms of the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, sent threats to Hamas that support for Gaza can be halted if Hamas does not return the other remains. “No return, no aid,” Ben Gvir stated on the televised address Monday evening.
Trump Proclaims “New Dawn” in the Middle East
During his tour of the region, Trump signed a declaration with Arab and Israeli leaders that proclaimed what he called “a historic dawn of a new Middle East.” The declaration reiterated commitments to upholding the ceasefire and seeking stability in the region.
“A big burden has been lifted, but the job is not done,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social detailing his trip. “The dead have not been returned as promised.”
In Gaza, the health authorities reported they received 45 bodies of Palestinians returned by Israel in accordance with the ceasefire agreement. The news was interpreted as another attempt to cool tensions and consolidate the teetering ceasefire.
As the Trump Plan’s second phase gets underway, experts warned that the failure to disarm Hamas could be a pathway back to violence. Still, Washington’s stance is focused on making sure it is peace consonant with diplomacy and reconstruction.https://press.un.org/en/2025/sgsm20802.doc.htm
