Maithili Thakur Joins BJP Bihar Candidate List from Alinagar
The BJP Bihar Candidate List for the 2025 elections was released, and it includes folk singer Maithili Thakur contesting from Alinagar, raising the stakes in the upcoming polls. Thakur is on the line of candidate participants from Alinagar, a well-running and well-respected Mithila community seat.

Thakur is another offering for the BJP as they are attempting to merge political calculation with cultural popularity; Thakur is known for promoting Maithili culture and said she was encouraged in her political work by both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the current Bihar leader Chief Minster Nitish Kumar, “I want to be part of the society and be beneficial to the advancement of Bihar, the left or the right is not something that encrossed my mind.” after she entered.
BJP Bihar Candidate List Brings New Faces to Key Seats
The BJP’s second list for Bihar’s 2025 election portends even more new candidates. Anand Mishra is to contest the Buxar seat, Virendra Kumar is to contest Rosra, and Chhoti Kumar is to contest Chhapra. The BJP will want these new candidates to bolster their voting base and engage younger candidates in their campaign.
Two incumbent-member-legislators (MLAs) received nominations again – Ramchandra Prasad from Hayaghat and Birendera from Rosera. However, a number of other incumbents did not receive nominations, like Gyanendra Singh Gyanu from Barh, CN Gupta from Chhapra, and Kusum Devi from Gopalganj. This list evidently suggested the BJP was signaling a change in party focus on new leadership, and new party leadership in the political process.
Alinagar Becomes A Key Contesting Opportunity
Alinagar was a contest for Maithili Thakur and seemed to be a case of the Party trying to gain interest. The BJP is excited about Thakur’s cultural mass base in an effort to gain votes in Mithilanchal. The party nominated other candidates on the list – Rakesh Ojha from Shahpur, Kedar Nath Singh from Baniapur, and Mahesh Paswan from Agiaon, with Mahesh Paswan having contested the former seat as a JD(U) nominee.
BJP’s Counter to Opponents with Some Recycled Names
Political pundits viewed the BJP’s Bihar election 2025 second list as a preemptive move against Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), which is trying to build candidates with the presentation of being able to enter professionals from all communities. In this, the BJP’s willingness to trot out popular names, such as Thakur and Mishra, to show a willingness to crossover with popularism + government experience.
The re-ordering seems intentional, with Bihar moving toward assembly polls in November, combining new and old faces, for the BJP in the second list.
