Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack against the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BJP today. He accused them of large-scale “vote theft” operations in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections.
Addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Gandhi alleged that about 25 lakh votes – tampered with in the state. It came through fake entries, duplicate voter identity cards, and bogus addresses under an alleged operation named “Sarkar Chori.”
“Thousands of BJP workers voted both in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. This is not a constituency-level manipulation, this is an industrial-scale operation,” said Gandhi, terming it “clear proof” of the BJP’s attempt to “destroy Indian democracy.”
Duplicate and Fake Voters Alleged
Quoting data analysis by his team, Gandhi claimed that there were 5.21 lakh duplicate voters and 1,24,177 voters with the same photographs in Haryana’s rolls. Gandhi further alleged that officials deleted 3.5 lakh genuine voters while registering hundreds of votes under a single address in several constituencies.
Citing one example of 501 voters listed under the same house number, he also termed as a ‘lie’ the ECI’s explanation that house number ‘0’ was used for homeless citizens. “We verified these cases on the ground. These are not homeless people. The Chief Election Commissioner is lying,” Gandhi said showing visuals of the alleged discrepancies. https://www.wionews.com/videos/rahul-gandhi-alleges-vote-theft-in-haryana-elections-1762357100090
The ‘H-Files’ and a Brazilian Model
Releasing what he termed the “H-Files,” Gandhi exposed aspects of what he termed the “industrialisation of vote theft.” Among the more shocking allegations, he said, was that one woman, supposedly a Brazilian model, voted 22 times in 10 different booths in a variety of names including “Seema, Sweety, Saraswati, Rashmi and Vimla.”
“This is not a glitch. It’s a system. For the first time, postal votes and actual results do not match. In postal ballots, the Congress got 73 seats, the BJP 17. Then how did the final outcome flip?” he asked.
Accusations against the ECI
Gandhi accused the ECI of deliberately refusing to use its own software devised to detect duplicate entries of voters. “We asked them to run the software; they declined. The reason is simple — they are helping the BJP,” he alleged.
He further referred to the viral video of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who said that the BJP would win because “we have the vyavastha (arrangement) in place,” suggesting premeditated manipulation.
Call to Youth and Legal Action
On legal recourse, Gandhi said, “The matter is before the people and the Supreme Court,” as he called upon India’s youth and Gen Z to “restore democracy through satya and ahimsa.” “This system of vote theft has been industrialised, and we are certain it will be used in Bihar next,” he warned, referring to the upcoming state elections. Similar allegations in the past have been dismissed by the Election Commission as “baseless and incorrect,” saying no voter deletion can be done without following due process.
