This will be Chancellor Merz’ 1st official visit and it is a major milestone in establishing a stronger foundation for political trust and developing further collaborative activities regarding high priority issues as part of the 25th Anniversary Year Celebration of The India-Germany Strategic Partnership.

The first stop for both leaders on their itinerary is Sabarmati Ashram to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and reflect on the commonalities between the two leaders regarding core democratic principles. The leaders will then proceed to Sabarmati Riverfront to participate in an International Kite Festival representing the vibrant traditions of Gujarat and indicating another expression of India’s expanding capacity for soft power.
Following their time together at the kite festival, Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Merz will continue to Mahatma Mandir located in Gandhinagar, where they will engage in formal talks on multiple joint interest topics impacting both countries. The transition from cultural celebration to policy discussion highlights how committed the two nations are to each other through a shared commitment to each other’s mutual success.

Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Merz will review the progress made under the Strategic Partnership between India and Germany and will discuss the current status of trade and investment and the potential for future technological collaboration between the two countries. The two countries are also exploring opportunities to expand their cooperative efforts in areas related to Education, Skills Training and Free Allowance of Movement of People to facilitate the continued growth and development of each nation’s economy. Both Defence and Security, as well as joint Efforts to combat Terrorism, will be major themes of discussion in future meetings, in conjunction with continuing to advance/working together in the fields of Science, Innovative Practices, Climate Change Mitigation and Green Growth.
