North India winter storms have tightened their grip as snowfall disrupts hill regions and widespread rain lowers temperatures across the plains. Himachal Pradesh has experienced heavy snow at its higher elevations. The Kullu and Lahaul Spiti areas have closed roads, resulting in halted traffic along the highway from Manali to Leh.

Rain and light snow affected lower valleys, pushing tourist areas near freezing. Fresh snowfall was recorded in the area of Triund as well as on the adjoining trails. The states of Punjab and Haryana experienced significant rainfall overnight, with Chandigarh receiving enough rain to cool the daily temperature.
The majority of districts in Punjab received rain (such as Ludhiana, Patiala, and Amritsar), and the towns in Haryana received constant rain. Delhi experienced its first rain in weeks, and the windy weather produced a very temporary improvement in air quality in some neighborhoods. Fog was present during the mornings, while we have brighter days for the afternoons of this winter season.

More snow and rain are forecast in the coming days
A western disturbance will arrive shortly in north-western (NW) India. Himachal Pradesh is forecasted to see snow from Thursday through Saturday. The weather office has issued “Yellow Alerts” indicating remote band (or) isolated severe cold for Himachal Pradesh. There is a sequence of periods in which Jammu & Kashmir will receive rain.
The plains of Jammu and Kashmir may experience their first snowfall of the season this year. Heavier amounts of snow could be deposited locally on the mountains. In Rajasthan, there are expected to be some light to moderate rain showers.
Two western disturbances may influence the weather over the second half of January. Daytime sunshine might be able to increase maximum temperature values somewhat, while nights are expected to continue being cold for the affected areas. Travelers need to plan their travels carefully and prepare for changing road conditions as the weather changes. During the current period, agencies are advising caution while driving on mountain roads.
