Raghav Chadha’s changing role within AAP highlights shifting power dynamics and internal recalibration within the party. Once seen as a rising face of the party, his reduced visibility now raises questions about leadership strategy and control. Now, an unexpected political break has been placed before this rising star. Raghav Chadha used to represent AAP’s young public face, but since then, both decisions taken by the party members (such as his being moved from a significant position in parliament) as well as the leadership choices (which indicate an even deeper internal recalculation) have caused changes to the political landscape for him.

Due to these changes, observers are wondering how the internal structure of AAP is changing as compared to before, when he had been highly visible throughout all the campaigns and debates in which he had participated. However, now he is much less visible than he used to be, and this absence raises many questions concerning strategy & control. In addition, Chadha has publicly questioned some of the recent changes that have taken place related to him regarding his removal from his previous role.
Raghav Chadha Rise and Consolidation Within AAP
After Chadha became an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member when it first began and contributed greatly to the policy-making efforts with Arvind Kejriwal, he became the most prominent television spokesperson(s) for AAP. After being made the party’s head of finance in 2015, he was seen as more credible within the party’s upper echelon due to the confidence the leadership showed in him.
Shortly thereafter, he won an election from Rajinder Nagar and was given some administrative duties relating to the Delhi Jal Board, and then used this as a platform to influence how AAP planned its election strategy for the upcoming Punjab state legislature elections, where they were subsequently victorious by a considerable majority in 2022, and then subsequently nominated him for a seat in the Rajya Sabha shortly thereafter. So, Chadha was at a very high point in politics at a young age.
Emerging distance and signals of internal discord
Though many recent developments are very subtle, there has been an increasing indication of a significant breakdown of trust between Chadha and the leadership as time progresses; with several people expressing concern about Chadha’s absence during critical political moments, concerns about Chadha being absent from key legal developments are compounded by his failing to make public statements after the leadership transition.
His absence was further noted when party leaders indicated an increased likelihood of attacks against the BJP without actually carrying them out on several occasions. He has also made statements that were supposedly linked to his involvement in political conversations with outside parties, suggesting that certain leaders believe there is internal tension and, ultimately, increased frustration throughout the Organisation due to the relationship between them and Chadha.
Current shift and implications for AAP’s future strategy
On April 2, 2026, AAP officially named Ashok Mittal to replace him as deputy leader of the party. Chadha continues to have a seat on key decision-making committees. This demonstrates that while he is still considered partially important within the institution, how things are evolving clearly shows a change in priorities for AAP moving forward.
Chadha has publicly questioned the constraint placed on his speaking time in Parliament and stated the following: “What have I done that was wrong? I have raised issues of concern to the public every time I have spoken in Parliament; is it a crime or a mistake to raise these issues in front of my constituents?” “I say this after AAP has asked for the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to prohibit me from addressing the Rajya Sabha,” Chadha said.
Therefore, the message being sent out from AAP to the public highlights a large degree of internal issues within the party. Moving forward from now, the upcoming Punjab elections will provide a unique opportunity for AAP to focus on both its electoral and leadership decisions.
