PM Modi Supports Trump’s Peace Effort as Hamas Releases Last Hostages from Gaza

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the release of 20 Israeli hostages from Gaza, expressing India’s support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and his “sincere efforts” to bring stability to the war-torn region.
India greets release of all 20 Israeli hostages after two years. PM Modi praises Trump’s “sincere efforts” and Netanyahu’s “strong resolve” for peace in the Middle East.
Modi Lauds Trump’s “Sincere Efforts” and Netanyahu’s “Resolve”
In a Twitter post, PM Modi wrote, “We welcome the release of all hostages after over two years of captivity. Their freedom stands as a tribute to the courage of their families, the unwavering peace efforts of President Trump, and the strong resolve of Prime Minister Netanyahu. We support President Trump’s sincere efforts to bring peace to the region.” https://x.com/narendramodi/status/1977724045358416382
The release is a milestone in President Trump’s Gaza peace initiative, which started its initial phase with Hamas releasing the hostages following weeks of extended talks. The release came in the backdrop ofa U.S.-mediated Israel-Hamas ceasefire, which is seen as a possible end to almost two years of continuous war.
Breakthrough in Trump’s Gaza Peace Initiative
Hamas released the remaining 20 Israeli hostages in exchange for all of these, as well as several other Palestinian detainees Israel released, as part of a larger prisoner-exchange agreement. The exchange occurred through a series of high-level negotiations conducted in Egypt’s Sharm al-Sheikh, with U.S., Egyptian, and Qatari officials present.
The ceasefire follows close to two years since Hamas militants attacked Israel by surprise on October 7, 2023, where they killed 1,219 individuals—primarily civilians—and abducted 251 hostages into Gaza. Violence ignited one of the deadliest and longest battles in recent Middle Eastern conflict.
President Trump, who made the announcement of the ceasefire pact on October 9, called it “the first stage of a lasting peace” in his speech to Israel’s Parliament (Knesset) on Monday. “This is the end of a long and painful nightmare and the start of a hopeful new chapter for the people of Israel and Palestine,” he added.
Though President Trump will later in the week attend a regional peace summit in Sharm al-Sheikh, India will be represented by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh.
India’s Growing Role in Middle East Diplomacy
PM Modi’s remarks highlight New Delhi’s growing diplomatic engagement in the Middle East and its alignment with global efforts to stabilize the region. India has consistently called for a two-state solution and emphasized dialogue over confrontation in addressing the long-standing Israel-Palestine conflict.
With the hostage release coming as a possible turning point, analysts indicate that Trump’s move can recast U.S. influence in West Asia and pave the way for wider efforts at reconciliation between regional and international players.
