The National Investigation Agency ramped up its investigation into the Red Fort explosion that occurred on November 10. The agency arrested four additional key alleged offenders in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. With these arrests, there are now six alleged offenders in custody.
The four new alleged offenders are reportedly identified as Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay. All of whom claimed to have played important roles in the explosion that killed at least 15 people and injured a number of others. An NIA official stated that the four alleged offenders were involved in supporting a sophisticated terror module operating across multiple states.
Court Provides Ten-units of NIA Custody
Following the arrests, the NIA presented the four suspects to the District Sessions Judge at Patiala House Court, who provided ten units of custody in total. The agency subsequently needs to transport the alleged offenders to Srinagar, which is relatively close to Jammu and Kashmir, to produce in their investigation of the four. An NIA official reported that all four alleged offenders helped contribute to planning logistics or radicalizing efforts for the attack.
Previous Arrests Uncovered Bigger Conspiracy
The NIA arrested two additional suspects earlier in the week. They were Amir Rashid Ali, the registered owner of the blast vehicle, and Jasir Bilal Wani, alias Danish. Investigators have collected evidence showing that Umar-un-Nabi, suspected of being the driver of the vehicle packed with explosives, persuaded Wani to facilitate a Jaish-e-Mohammed module.
Lead emerged from an explosive recovery in Faridabad
Police had recovered 2900 kg of explosives from Al Falah University in Faridabad earlier. That discovery put into the open a significant operation containing a network of radicalised recruits, connecters and technical facilitators. Investigators believe that several members have operated ,in plain view ,from various educational institutions as a cover.
NIA Examining Wider Network Behind Attack
The NIA is also continuing to examine digital footprints, cross-border connections, and financial patterns for each element of the conspiracy behind the Red Fort blast. Officials stated the investigation remains live and will continue to unfold as new evidence is discovered.
