
After the 26/11 tragedy, Mumbai commemorated the occasion with deep reflection and remembrance. Many leaders and both survivors and victims of that horrible night were present at multiple locations throughout Mumbai to honor those who exhibited such courage.
Those who survived the attack continue to suffer the emotional scarring of the experience, while at the same time, the effect of this tragedy has continued to shape the security situation in India.
Every year since the attack, Mumbai has stood together as a symbol of the courage and determination of its citizens.
Maharashtra State leaders had also paid tribute to the brave police officers at the Mumbai Police Headquarters. The ceremony was led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and featured the floral offerings of both Ajit Pawar and the Senior Ministers and Officers in attendance. The Mumbai Police had also accompanied their grieving families, adding an added sense of strength and unity to the solemn gathering.
The citizens of Mumbai are forever grateful for the bravery and sacrifice of those police officers who stood against the attackers on that fateful night.
Mumbai recalls horror as tributes echo citywide
Tributes ring out all over Mumbai, an epicenter of this tragedy, as most people paid their respects at CST as well as hospitals that faced the attack that horrible night. They prayed for all the people who lost their lives, which numbered 166, from the series of coordinated attacks. There were also over 300 people with significant injuries at various locations across the city.

The group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, entered Mumbai via the Sea Route and attacked both hotels and landmarks during the attacks with calculated precision. The Mumbai attacks changed the way India conducts Counterterrorism operations.
People went to Prerana Sthal to pay their respects to Tukaram Ombale. Ombale – a courageous police officer who caught Ajmal Kasab alive when he was being arrested. Unfortunately for Ombale, he was killed while fighting to retain control of Kasab that night. He remains at the center of people’s memories in Mumbai.
The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to countering terrorism
The U.S. government sent a message expressing how proud they were of the city of Mumbai and how they stood firm with the victims, their families and all survivors of the attacks. The U.S. also noted the extradition of Tahawwur Rana this year.
Rana – one of the individuals involved in planning the 2008 Mumbai Attack, along with several other individuals. The extradition of Rana was a significant step forward in what has been a protracted investigation. The U.S. Embassy reiterated its commitment to support India and the city of Mumbai in preventing any future attacks.
The National Security Guard (NSG) of India hosted a memorial service at the Gateway of India. For the first time, Families of victims, the members of the NSG team and other officers took a collective pledge as a show of strength and unity. The citizens of Mumbai continue to demonstrate the courage displayed by their countrymen and have deep respect for the sacrifices made.
