Flight from India and international tracking
The brothers fled India shortly after the incident, with the Goa Police discovering them on December 7th even as they still involved in the rescue operations that took place in Goa. The Goa Police had opened a criminal investigation into the incident that night and requested an Interpol Blue Notice and were able to issue Lookout Circulars requesting the brothers’ immediate return to India. Thai authorities detained them in Phuket for an illegally overstayed visa and then deported the brothers from Thailand using emergency travel documents provided by the Indian Government after they had traveled to Delhi by way of direct flight.
The Brothers were arrested and produced in Delhi when they arrived in the country and a Delhi Court has given a transit order for the brothers to be brought to Goa for the criminal investigation. The police stated that they will bring the brothers before a court in Goa as soon as they get to Goa.
Safety violations and widening arrests
Investigators say that the fire that broke out on December 6th caused by electrical firecrackers that struck the wooden ceiling of the nightclub, and because of this, the flames spread quickly through the crowded dance area of the club. According to police, the club did not have any exit doors for people to escape, nor fire-extinguishing equipment available to fight the fire. Police reported that there were inadequate access routes for fire trucks to reach the club during the fire. The club also operating without any valid operating licenses, according to the police, and four staff members, including the manager, arrested in connection with the incident.
Authorities have also arrested Ajay Gupta, co-owner of the club, in New Delhi. Gupta claims that he is a passive investor in the club’s operations, and police later reported that he more actively involved in running the operations than he originally stated. Police stated that Gupta attempted to avoid arrested by admitting himself to the hospital. The investigation is continuing and police are further examining those responsible for this tragedy.
