On Wednesday, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the Indian team is “welcome” to come pick up the Asia Cup trophy from him at the continental organization’s base in Dubai, as the controversy surrounding the champions never receiving the prize continues to swirl around.
Naqvi Denies Apology, Dismisses Media Reports
Naqvi, in an X post, denied reports that indicated he apologized to BCCI officials regarding his actions at the presentation ceremony on Sunday, after the Indians refused to accept the prize from him.

“As the President of the ACC, I was willing to award the trophy on the day, and I am still willing to do it today. If they want it so badly I welcome them to visit me at the ACC headquarters to collect it from me,” he said.
“Let me just say this once: I have done nothing wrong, nor did I ever apologize to the BCCI and nor would I ever.”
BCCI Officials Protest Trophy Snub at ACC AGM
As representatives of the BCCI at the ACC AGM, Ashish Shelar and Rajeev Shukla raised a strong objection to the fact that the trophy, not adequately presented to the team led by Suryakumar Yadav, which won the final after defeating Pakistan.
Naqvi had informed BCCI officials on Tuesday that he would be willing to present the trophy to the Indian team. On that note, there was no decision taken at the AGM regarding that, resulting in anger from the BCCI top brass once more.
BCCI to Escalate Matter to ICC in November Meeting
The BCCI will take this matter up with the ICC, with the ICC meeting slated for November.
The two sides contested each other three times through the tournament, with India winning on each occasion, which included the final. moreover, during the tournament, India had a ‘no handshake policy’ with Pakistani players, which caught the ire of the PCB.
