Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Important Announcements from the Election Commission
On Monday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, formally announcing that voting will take place in two phases on November 6 and November 11, and that the counting of votes and results declaration would take place on November 14. https://eci.gov.in/The period for the current 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly expires on November 22, 2025.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar, and Election Commissioners Sukhbihir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, visited Patna over the weekend to examine the state’s security and law and order arrangements related to the elections. During the announcement, the ECI reiterated that it would try to do everything possible to deliver free, fair, and inducement-free elections.

The Commission also defined new processes and technology applications to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the voting process. These include enhanced spending tracking and real-time checking of polling materials.
Responses from Partisan Political Groups
Since the announcement, reactions have come from the major parties. The Janata Dal (United), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has stated that they also urged the ECI to consider conducting the elections in a single phase, using the law-and-order situation to instigate that idea.
“We had appealed to the EC to conduct assembly elections in a single phase. The state doesn’t have the Naxal problem, or any serious issues with security fact.” JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha said.
In the meantime, opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav said that the INDIA bloc’s seat-sharing equation was in the last stage, and they would announce it soon. Furthermore, the NDA alliance is likely to announce its seat-sharing arrangement later this week.
Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Political Situation and Insights
In the current Bihar Assembly, the BJP has 80 MLAs, and its ally JD(U) has 45. The NDA also has 4 MLAs of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) allied with it, giving them a combined strength of 129, well above the 122 needed for a majority.
The RJD Confederation Mahagathbandhan is a strong contender as well, with 112 MLAs, consisting of 75 from RJD and 19 Congress.
As both coalitions prepare for a competitive campaign, experts predict record numbers of turn-out of voters who have returned for festival-long holidays and all the political activity around Bihar.
